Inside a tidal delta / May 13

Haven’t seen the bottom side of a tidal delta’s crossbedding yet? We crawled through all facets of coastal systems today, with two students’ presentations and a bit of field lecture first, and the discovery of a Pennsylvanian beach barrier system at the Cumberland Falls afterwards. Whilst we were witnesses of how the tidal channels received their sedimentary fillings, a number of storms left intercalation of beach-gravel layers. Not to forget the transgressive character of the system, overlying a coal-bearing paleo-marsh facies. The atmosphere in our little tent village is great and it is amazing how good mashed potatoes taste after such an intense day.
