Abstract

Based on her new book entitled, Ending the Fossil Fuel Era, MIT Press (2015), Pamela's talk outlines policies and movement strategies around the world in six case studies with 4 theoretical chapters on ethics, policy, economics and culture that examine non-extraction of fossil fuels. She will also discuss her new project on legal frameworks globally for supporting rights of nature. These cases include criminal and civil cases in which nature’s rights have been invoked and protected, and the resulting policy outcomes from these decisions.

Speaker Information

Pamela Martin is a Professor of Politics and International Relations at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. Dr. Martin received her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park and taught at La Universidad San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador. Her research and writing focus on global environmental politics, energy, sustainable development, and international relations and policy. Martin has written various books and articles in her field including, Oil in the Soil: The Politics of Paying to Preserve the Amazon and Introduction to World Politics: Conflict and Consensus on a Small Planet.
