CCU's Georgetown Education Center Dedication

Date:
Friday, March 14, 2014

An event was held on March 14, 2014 for the dedication of CCU's newest education center located at 909 Front St. in Georgetown.  Through partnering with agencies already embedded in the Georgetown community, CCU can further promote joint programs and broader interests relating to the Winyah Bay and the region.

The immediate community can anticipate students and researchers coming and going as the new space will serve as a staging area for various research projects taking place in and around Winyah Bay. Thus the Georgetown Education Center will provide a needed resource to carry out field operations.

Several extension opportunities will also come to fruition. Coastal Carolina University marine science undergraduates will staff the Education Center on a limited basis providing public outreach on current research being conducted; thereby, involving students who have an interest and passion for sharing science with the community. The Center will also host occasional classes for undergraduates and graduate students. Informal science seminars for the public are being planned that will include short discussions led by students or faculty focusing on the coastal environments and processes.
