SCMSS Hosts a Visiting Scientist from Norway

Monday, February 16, 2015

A doctoral student from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Nora Stray, is visiting the School of Coastal and Marine System Science (SCMSS) this semester till the end of March. Advised by Professor Patrick Espy at NTNU, her PhD project focuses on a multi-instrument study using satellite and ground-based remote sensing observations to ascertain the vertical motion of the atmosphere in the polar region, its relation to the horizontal wind field, and its inter-hemispheric coupling through planetary-scale waves. As part of completing her thesis this May, Nora will be working with Var Limpasuvan to complete a paper on planetary-scale waves and their relationships with the stratospheric polar vortex and to explore the global propagation of gravity waves from their troposphere sources into the mesosphere.
