CMSS Researchers Awarded in CHIKV Challenge Competition

A team of CMSS researchers with expertise in forecasting methodologies were recently awarded a $10,000 prize in the “Best Data Sources Methodology” category from the CHIKV Challenge competition.  Of the over 30,000 competitors from universities, research institutes, commercial companies and government organizations, the CMSS team is among the top 12 teams who received accolades.  The competition was hosted by the Defense Advanced Researc

Upon the time at the margin of the Silurian Appalachian Basin, the coral reefs and brachiopod communities were frequently destroyed by storm events. Enriched in tempestite beds they found their way to eternity. Our target of the day was continental shelf systems with their complex facies successions.

On barrier islands, lagoons and carbonate platforms / May 14

Starting early into the morning, we spend the time until noon in outstanding road-cuts providing a deep insight into the cyclic occurrence of lagoonal deposits, showing a slight influence of the nearby barrier islands, with thick carbonate units of open sea origin.

After a brief introduction into the variety of gravity-driven downslope and current-related contour-parallel sediment transport processes under our representational CCU canopy, we walked on a Paleozoic continental slope at Lake Chilhowee. Literally, the pebbly mudstone deposits incised their channels into sandy debris flow beds just in front of our eyes.
