Undergraduate Research Assistant

Experience Type:
Student Employee
Date Participated:
June, 2011 to December, 2011
Experience Description:
As an undergraduate research assistant, I was privileged to have been exposed to a multitude of problem solving approaches using both field and laboratory instrumentation. This opportunity has allowed me to implement theory learned at the university level. My particular experience pertained specifically to groundwater related research. I assisted in measuring the activities of various geochemical tracers in an attempt to identify groundwater discharge plumes and quantify seepage in the coastal and wetland setting. Beyond my groundwater interests, I got involved processing seismic images of subsurface formations.
Working as a research assistant has aided my conceptual understanding of systems and transformed it to more of an applied appreciation. I gained confidence reading and interpreting scientific literature and further developed my scientific curiosities.
