Saturday, November 6, 2010 to Friday, December 3, 2010

Center research scientists, Rick Peterson and Rich Viso will sail on the research vessel Atlantis. The ship is owned by the US Navy and operated by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. This vessel houses and deploys the Human Occupied Vehicle (HOV) Alvin. Scientists on this cruise will explore benthic habitats and water chemistry associated with brine seeps in the Norther Gulf of Mexico, with particular emphasis on fluid flow and microbial communities in these unique environments. An additional cruise objective involves exploration of the Deep Water Horizon disaster site.
