Environmental Quality Lab Employee

Experience Type:
Student Employee
Date Participated:
May, 2011 to August, 2011
Experience Description:
This past summer I was involved with the continuous monitoring of nearshore hypoxia and the maintenance required on the optical sondes deployed at Apache Pier. I was also involved in event-driven sampling during hypoxia. I did in-field sampling for river gauging and ran the samples for BOD and Toxicity (using Daphnia magna) once back in the lab. In addition to working in the lab, I conducted a student research project studying the relationships of TSS/VSS, Chlorophyll, Turbidity, and Radon at Apache Pier and their effects on hypoxic events.
Comment:
This experience gave me an idea of what it would be like to work in the real world, and how to apply what I learn in class to real life examples.
