Living Shoreline Monitoring

Experience Type:
MSCI 399, Independent Study/Internship
Date Participated:
October, 2011 to May, 2012
Experience Description:
I helped assemble oyster castles on North Island with the Nature Conservancy. I then went out each month after that to collect soil samples and monitor the castles to determine whether or not oysters were beginning to grow. We also collected vibracores and set up a Hydrolab in order to monitor the water quality as well.
I enjoyed working on this project because it definitely helped me learn valuable skills, both in the field and in the lab. It will be a good experiance to put on my resume, and I think it has prepared me for more research in the future.
